Remember the feeling you had when you fell in love? When your mind couldn't think of anyone else, and you were certain your heart would explode because that love got bigger by the day? You thought you knew love a few times, but then you met your spouse and knew for sure this was love. Do you remember looking into the eyes of your true love and trying to look away, yet not being able to, afraid that the feeling would dissipate if you did? You felt it again when you had your children, completely amazed that you had space in your brimming heart to love even more.
Going into this summer, our hospital stay allowed me to fall in love one more time. But not with Travis, who was fighting for his life in the bed next to me. Or our children, who would wander around the house while we were gone, searching for us in the empty rooms. And not with our moms and dads and families, who ran our home and waited on us hand and foot while we hoped for a miracle.
The hours that I spent in prayer and scripture - or aimlessly walking around the hospital hallways - or staring out the window at our parking lot view, forced me to gaze upon God. If you've never fallen in love with God, it takes your breath away much in the same way your true love did. Only with this love, God loves you more, far more than you will ever be able to love or comprehend. He thinks of you more. He knows you more. He eagerly waits on the edge of His seat, hoping you will notice Him. Ask about Him. Call Him. And choose Him. 1 John 4:19 tells us that we love because He loves us. He doesn't hoard his love or reserve and divvy out more for later. He gives it freely, without restraint. It's funny to imagine my little love next to His big love. Regardless, I love Him with abandon.
If you've ever looked around and thought, "Wow...," then you've been witness to God's love. If not, here's a glimpse of what makes us think, "Wow...," everyday.
